Mushrooms

Mushrooms can be found almost everywhere in the forest, meadow, pasture etc. They can be found from spring until late autumn and winter. Over 150 different kinds of mushroom have been recorded in the Reserve. We can mention some edible ones: Auricularia auricularia-judae, Agaricus campestre L. Fr., Agaricus silvicola, Lepiota procera Scop.ex.Fr., Coprinus comarus, Lycoperdon giganteum, Cautharellus cibarius, Polyporus squamosus, Polyporus sulphureus. All these mushrooms grow from spring, mostly during the summer and autumn and the kind of Pleurotus ostreatus can be found in winter. Some kinds are common and some are rare such as Morchella sp.There are some poisonous kinds in the Reserve such as Amanita pantherina, Amanita phalloides, Agaricus xanthodermus, but they are still rather rare in the Reserve.

Besides calamus, there are some other medicinal and edible herbs.The part near the river banks contains two kinds of cattail (Typha latifolia L and Typha angustifolia L) whose rhizome is used in feeding. The root and submersed stem of waterlilies contain a lot of starch and are also used in feeding. The following medicinal and edible herbs can be found on Valjevac and other grassy ecosystems: Capsella bursa pastoris Medik, Cichorium intybus L., Polygonum avipulare L, Ononis spinosa L and Althaea officinalis L. The only bushy species on Valjevac is Crategus sp. whose fruit is edible. In forests and underbush there are Cornus mas L, Sambucus nigra L, Prunus spinosa L. Bark of young oak is used for healing a lot of illnesses in folk medicine. Some medicinal herbs are present along the edge of forests such as Melissa officinalis L, Urtica dioica L , Tussilafo farfara L and Symphitum officinalis L.
